A long prosperous Life -Proverbs 3:1-2

September 31 A long prosperous life-Proverbs 3:1-2
"My son, do not forget my teaching but let your heart keep my commandments for length of days and years of the life full of peace will be added to thee"

This month we have prayed for protection, salvation, a  sense of purpose, to grow in faith, submission to God, and power over sin, We want to please God, respect authority, to have a teachable spirit, and  to increase in  maturity. We prayed for wisdom, discernment, integrity, moral purity, courage, and perseverance  We want to be useful to God with a sensitive, cheerful, serving and grateful heart. We need perspective on our possessions and to pursue excellence. We need protection from the evil one to overcome temptation by avoiding negative influence and having Godly friends. We pray for future spouses and the current spouses. Our prayer is for a consistent walk with Jesus and a long prosperous life.   Thank You

Budget traveling hotels etc

We stay in a lot of hotels. All kind of prices and styles.  One night we spent $47 plus tax on a clean quiet room.  We  had our own private patio with picnic tables next to the laundry.  We had a picnic and priced stuff on the picnic tables while I washed a load of clothes. The next night we stayed in a $95 hotel. We had a lot of stuff to bring in  and price. It took two carts loaded down to get every thing upstairs.  When we finally got every thing in the room.  Mark went into the bathroom and the toilet seat was broke in half.  They gave us another room and we had to haul all of the stuff to the room down the hall to a room  where the toilet ran all night if you did not jiggle the handle.

You never know what you are  going to get.  We have a few tricks that help.  We always spend the last hour on the road looking on the internet map program  of the city we plan to stay in to find hotels, rates and comments.  We then call and talk to clerks to get an idea of what they have to offer. We always look at the room first and then if possible we book it on line.  You often get a better rate and points in some hotels.  We have a lot of points and get to stay many night with our points.

Another  money saving idea is to eat out as little as possible.  Most trips, we eat out about once a week.  This trip we have eaten out twice. Of course, when we were near the coast, Mark ate fish.  Then we treated our self to Japanese and had enough left over for another meal.  We buy one baked chicken from Walmart and make three meals out of it.  I am the queen of the microwave and take electric  kitchen gadgets to help.
Mark always has a grill with us.  Some times, we stay in an efficiency apartment with a kitchen and cook up several meals, ready for the microwave.  I even used all of the left overs last night to make a great home made...I mean  hotel made soup in my electric pot and corn bread in my XL  gadget.

When you travel as much as we do, you have to know how to budget.  We need to save our money to buy stuff to sell so that we can go back again.  The only thing that we can not budget is what we have to pay for gas. The further north we went, the higher it got.  We have paid 3.59, 3.79. 3.83, 3.89, 3.99, 4.02, 4.08 4.12 and 4.14 :(

A consistent Walk- Psalms 1:1-3

September 30 A Consistent Walk - Psalm 1:1-3
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked nor sit in the seat of scoffers but his delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law he meditates day and night .  He is like a tree planted by stream of water, that yields it's fruit in its season and it's leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers."

Life is hard.  It is hard to stay on track.  There are temptations every where we go.  These verses tell us how
to be consistent in our Walk.  It gives us the promise of being blessed and to prosper in all we do. We can not do it alone.

We need Jesus and the way to find Jesus is through His Word.  The Bible. To fall in love, you have to spend time with the one that you fall in love with.  The sames goes with falling in love with Jesus. Jesus is the Word. To  fall in love with Jesus, fall in love with His word.  Delight in it. Mediate on it day and night.  Read, study, memorize and mediate on the precious Word of God. This is the way to maintaining a consist walk that pleases the Father.

I was heart broken when I recently heard that  a very small percent of people who go to church,  read the Bible between Sundays.  Seems to me they must be starving if they are not getting fed except on Sundays.

There is a difference  in reading a chapter because you know you should and digging  in the word to find the hidden treasures.  Pray for a real thirst for the word, where you can not wait for the next opportunity to open the Book. There really is a difference  Pray for all of us  to spend more  time reading and studying the Bible.  The more time you spend in the word, the more time you want to spend time in it.  Then you delight in  the Word and can not wait to  have quiet time with God.

Your walk talks
Your  talk talks
but your walk talks
louder than you talk talks

A Godly future Spouse 2 Corinthians 6:14

September 29 A Godly future Spouse- 2 Corinthians 6:14
"Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers for what fellowship hat righteousness with unrighteousness or What fellowship has light with darkness."

I started praying for the future spouses of my children when they were babies.  I am so blessed.  I have a son-in-law who is so good to my daughter and a wonderful dad to our grandchildern.  I some times tell him that is is my favorite son, because he is the only one who answer the phone when I call.  I can not tell you what a wonderful wife my son has.   I can not imagine a better wife for Clint or mother to our youngest grand baby girls. I love them both.  My youngest two are not married yet.  But I love the two that they have chosen and I am praying for them. Pray for your kids and their future spouses or for the spouses that they have now.

Godly Friends-Daniel 2:17-18,3:28

"Then Daniel went to his house and made the manner know to Shadrach,  Meshach and Abednego, his companions and told them to seek mercy of the God of heaven concerning this mystery so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon...but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries and he has made known to king Nevuchanezzar what will be in the latter days."

I can remember  my kids would separate  themself from certain kids. Later I  would realize that young person was  heading in the wrong direction. Some times you just have to separate yourself  from a bad situation.  Having friends at any age is very important, in good times and bad times.  I know that there are facebook friends and that is great. Sandra helped me last night with a verse that she posted that spoke to me just when I needed it.  But sometimes  you need a hug or a kind word or love in action. Love is a verb, sometimes you say it best by fulfilling a need  or just by being there.  Pray for our friends and the friends of our children and grand children.

Avoid negative influences Proverbs1:10,15

September 27 Avoid negative influences  Proverbs 1:10,15
"My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent my son, do not walk in the way of them, hold back your foot from their paths."

It is so important to choose friends wisely.  Friends have so much influence on our children and grandchildren. We need to pray for them to choose wisely.

There is a little song that I remember from childhood.

Vs 1"Oh be careful little eyes what you see, Oh be careful eyes what you see
For the Father up above is looking down below so
be careful eyes what you see".
Vs 2 Oh be careful little ears what you hear
Vs 3 Oh be careful little hands what you do
Vs 4Oh be careful little feet where you go

Lot of truth in the little songs we learned  in Sunday School.

God loves us too much to allow negative influences to destroy our lives
without warning us about it in His Word.
Sin is sin because God knows what is best for us.

To overcome Satan's temptations-Hebrew 2:18

September 26 -To overcome Satan's temptations- Hebrews 2:18

"For because he, himself has suffered and been tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted"

This verse is talking about Jesus, who came down to defeat Satan.  The Spirit led Him into the Wilderness after His Baptism to be tempted by the devil.  He used the Word to defeat Satan.

"Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against thee."

When I was a kid,  Bible Drills were called  Sword drills.  The weapon of choice to defeat our enemy.  Jesus is the Word and our advocate in overcoming Satan's temptation.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to lead us so that we can have Victory in Jesus through the word.

Protection from the evil one John -17:15

September  25 Protection from the evil one.  John 17:15

"I do not pray that they will be taken out of the world, but that you will preserve them from the evil one."

If that prayer was good enough for my Jesus to pray for his disciples, then that is my prayer for my family.

Pursuit of excellence Colossians 3:23

September 24 Pursuit of excellence Colossians 3:23
"And whatever you do, do it heartily as to the Lord and not to men."

This verse begins with "whatever you do".  We have a tendency to separate our life into secular and religious.  This should not be.  God is our Father and He wants us everyday, not just on Sunday.

When we are work and at play and eating and praying and driving. We are to remember who we are and whose we are.

When you are work, do not be a clock watcher, trying to get away with as little work as possible.

When we are at play,  do your best, play fair, and  be a good sport in winning and losing.

We all have to eat sometime, but we do not have to eat all of the time.   Think before you eat and only when you are hungry and not more than what we need.

When we tell someone that we are going to pray for them.....we should pray for them. James 5:16B says,"the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

When we are driving, we need to be defensive, courteous drivers and not rant and rave over other drivers.  Also we should obey traffic laws and you will not have to worry about that light and siren  behind your car.

These are just a few examples of the whatever the verse is talking about.

The middle part of the verse says to do it heartily. That just means with all your heart.  As a mother, I did not expect all of my children to  always make an A; I just expected them to do their very best.  That is what God deserves, our very best.

The last part of the verse says, "as to the Lord".  If we do every thing  like we are doing it for God, then we are pursuing excellence and pleasing the Father. Let's make that our pray for today and everyday.  Aim high.

Perspective on Possessions - 1 Timothy 6:6-8

September 23 Perspective on Possessions 1 Timothy 6:6-8
"There is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world and it is certain we can carry nothing out, but if we have food and clothing with these we shall be content."

This verse says it all.

We must provide for our families.  However, we do not have to keep up with the Jones who are in debt up to their eyeballs  trying to keep up appearances.  You do not have to have the newest, the biggest or the brightest.

Work hard, but do not become a workaholic who loses everything chasing the almighty dollar.  You can not love money and God at the same time.  Money is not evil, it is the love of money that is the root of evil.

" Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteous and all these things will be added unto you." Matthew 6:33

Pray that our Kids will learn to be content and put God first.

A grateful Heart Psalms 97:12

September 22 A Grateful Heart - Psalms 97:12
"Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous and give thanks to his holy name."

One of the first things that we teach our children is to say please and thank you. Those lessons in manners still apply.  We need  to have grateful hearts and learn to be more  thankful for all of His blessings.

I know this is hard to believe, but when I went to the public school we memorized scripture.  When I was in the first grade, we learned Psalms 100 . It began "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord"...which was good  news for a girl like me who could not sing.  The forth verse was, "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise; be thankful unto Him and bless His name."

Thanksgiving is more than just a holiday the third Thursday in November.  It is a lifestyle that is pleasing to the Lord.

Pray that we all learn to see God in the little things and the big things of life and give Him the Glory.
Thank you Jesus.

Serving heart

We just finished a Max Lacado study that basically said when you serve others, you are serving Jesus. When you love others you are loving Jesus. This is pretty easy with family, but serving stranger is another thing. Here are ideas on how to love and serve others.

1) See the need by looking into there eyes, with kind eyes. See them as real people, some ones mother, father, son or daughter.  This goes for beggars, waitresses, clerks , customers, rich folks, poor folks and everything in between.

2) What's in your hand.  Use what you have time, talents, energy and financial resources (etc)

3) Ask every morning for God to put some one in your path that you can serve.

4) Listen for the voice of God and obey NOW. Good intentions are no good to anybody

5 Do not become over whelm with all of the problems in the world. You can not solve all of them, but you can   do something every day to make this a better place.  Do not become so busy do good  that you forget the best, which is spending time with Jesus through bible study and prayer.  Your relation  with other will always be better when your relationship with God comes first. This does not excuse us from doing all we can, when we can.  The Bible say to not grow weary in well doing..

6) Remember, when you go through really tough things, it will not be in vain.  God can use you to help others with a special empathy that comes having gone through it.and survived.

7) The ripple effect....You may never know what becomes of people that you help along they way. They may be the next Billy Graham or the one who discovers a cure for cancer.
.
Pay it forward
Max Lacado taught  a new way of looking at the term secret service.   This is doing things for others with out them knowing about it.

I have watched Mark the last couple of days. He does this without even thinking about it.  Little things all day that help others and know body knows  about. Walking on the beach, he grabbed a fishing bucket that the tide was about to wash away and put it higher on the beach. Later,  He found sunglasses and put then up on the post so they would not wash away.  He freed a butterfly from a spider web and we watched it fly away.  He picks up trash on the trail.  He bought two bowls from a lady who did not realize she had it overly priced because he perceived she needed to make a sale.  He opens doors, carries boxes, puts up tents, and always stands up in buses if any lady needs a seat.  His Mama raise a gentlemen.  I love to watch how he treats others and the effect he has on others with is positive personally.  His response to the casual "how are you doing" is to  smile and the  answer " marvelous." It surprises and pleases and turns a brief encounter into a up lifting moment in their day.

Serve others = serving God.... Have a great day, looking for others to bless and be blessed.

A serving heart- Philippians 2:5-8

September 21  A serving heart Philippians 2:5-8
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God did not count equality with God to be something to grasp, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant and being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on the cross."

Jesus is our example He is the king of king and Lord of lord and yet he came in the form of man as a servant to die  on the cross to save all of us from sin.

When I think of a servant's heart I think of my Mom who is in her 80's and still takes care of all of us.  Mom is a care-taker and a gracious lady.  She raised 6 children and still spoiled my Daddy rotten.  My prayer is that I can some how become half the lady she is.

Pray for that servants heart for ourself so that we can be an example to the future generation so they can pass it one to the next.  A servant heart.....what a goal

400 miles to Myrtle Beach

Mark and I were suppose to leave for our shopping/selling trip Friday.  Instead, we left at 8:00 this morning and drove a little over 400 miles. We had plenty of time to talk and listened to radio sermons, and music. I also got to study my bible and read.

We stopped at several shops and only found one thing in Georgia to buy and nothing in South Carolina....yet.

We did find the beach and checked in to a nice little  hotel on  Myrtle Beach and took a long walk on the beach to  the board walk.

We enjoyed watching the fisherman on the fishing pier.  Last trip, Mark hauled 2 fishing poles all the way to North Dakota.  We broke one of the poles and he never found anywhere to fish.  This time, he did not bring his pole. So, of course,  at lunch we had a picnic  beside a river that would have been a great place to fish. Then tonight we  find  this huge pier full of people catching fish.  We saw our first ribbon fish.  It looked like a cross between an eel and a needle fish only flatter.

Anyway, we  went back to the room and cooked supper in our little kitchen.  We found two great Spas, one inside  and the other outside .  They were very relaxing and felt great on my sore elbow.  It is getting late and we are getting tired. It was a great first day.  We are two days ahead of schedule and already  400 miles north.

A Cheerful Heart -Proverbs 17:22

September 20- A Cheerful Heart Proverbs 17:22
"A cheerful heart is good like medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
The living Bible says .....but a broken spirit  makes one sick.

When we travel, we meet all kinds of people, some negative and some positive.
This is one of my favorite quotes from a lovely lady we met on the road.
"As long  as I got life, I've got another chance to get it right".

Our little Alle (7 months) came to our Tuesday Bible study group for the last 30 minutes while Anna went to hospital to visit her Dad.  Alle gave each lady a huge toothless  smile and of course they all smiled back.  Maybe we should all smile more and spread a little joy.  I remember an old song that said, "Don't worry, be happy." Simple song with a simple message.

Stress will make you sick.  Just ask my husband.  After a heart attack and five by-passes, he learn to enjoy  life and  to not sweat the small stuff.  Every day, I hear him say, "Thank you Lord for another day." Psalms 118:24  says "This the day which the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Pray that you children and grandchildren will  have a cheerful heart and keep their youthful enthusiasm.

A sensitive heart Colossians 3:12

September 19 A sensitive heart Colossians 3:12
"Put on therefore, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience."

Listen to what this small verse says
1) We are chosen by God.  Imagine that, we are chosen by the God of the Universe to be His
2) We are Holy and Beloved
3) We are to put on:
      COMPASSION
       KINDNESS
       HUMILITY
       MEEKNESS
       PATIENCE
Read Ephesians 6:10-18 where the word tells us to put on "The whole armor of God"
The term put on reminds  me  of what we must do every day...put on our clothes.  So, this is a daily thing. Pray for  a fresh  batch  of compassion. kindness, humility, meekness and patience so that we will  have a  heart sensitive to pleasing our Father.

Usefulness to God- 2 Peter 1:5-8

September 18 -Usefulness to God 2 Peter 1:5-8
"For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue and virtue with knowledge and knowledge with self-control and self control with patience and patience with godliness and godliness with brotherly kindness and brotherly kindness with love(charity). For if these things are yours and abound they keep you from being ineffective and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

"nuff said.  Pray that God will be able to use all of us until the day we die

Self-discipline 1 Timothy 4:7-8

September 17  Self-discipline 1 Timothy 4:7-8
Have nothing to do with godless and silly myths.  Train yourself in godliness,  for while body training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."

The living bible says," Don't waste time arguing over foolish ideas and silly myths and legends.  Spend your time and energy in the exercise of keeping spiritually  fit.  Bodily exercise is alright , but spiritual  exercise is much more important ....because it will help you in this life and the next.

Exercise is important.  I told Mark that my goal is, for us  to do as much as we can, for as long as we can, so that we can  keep going for as long as we can.

We are in  training  to become the person  that God  knows we can be. It takes discipline to do the right thing.  It is easy to backslide and fall back into bad habits.  That goes for  mental, physical and spiritual.  With the brain, and our muscles , you have to use it or lose it.  My broken elbow will not improve if I  refuse to move it because it hurts.  I have to do physical therapy every day to regain my full range of motion. The same goes for our spiritual growth.  We need to discipline ourselves  to read and study and pray daily  until it becomes such a habit,  that we can not imagine going a day with- out it. That is when you fall in love with the Word of God  and the Author.

So, while exercise is important for our body, we really need to spend time doing  things that are good for us in this life and the life to come.

Pray for discipline for all of us.

These words go together

These words go together nicely for a child of God who has had  a received a genuine conversion experience with  a teachable spirit to increase spiritual maturity and gain wisdom to discern truth to have integrity and  to please God and find purpose through faith and submission  to have power over sin and protection from Satan's attack.

Perseverance 1 Corinthians 15:58

September 16 - Perseverance 1 Corinthians 15:58
"Therefore, my beloved brethen, be stedfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

We need to keep on keeping on.....When the going gets tough,  the tough get going....Winners never quit and quiters never win....Is that enough cliches?

The bible says do not grow tired in well doing. Pray for perseverance in the life of out kids grands and ourselves.

If you have persevered these past 2 weeks in praying for your children and grandchildren, you have prayed for:
PROTECTION
SALVATION
PURPOSE
FAITH
SUBMISSION
POWER OVER SIN
TO PLEASE GOD
RESPECT AUTHORITY
TEACHABLE SPIRIT
INCREASE SPIRITUAL MATURITY
WISDOM
DISCERNMENT
TRUTH
INTEGRITY
PERSEVERANCE
Not a bad way to spend two weeks.  I have these words written, just like this, by my bed to remind me to pray for the kids and grands every day.

Courage -Joshua 1:9

September 15 Courage Joshua 1:9
"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage, be not afraid neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord they God is with whither soever thou goest."

Carrie played the cowardly lion in the Wizard of Oz when she was in school.  I loved seeing her on stage and was amazed at her talent.  The thing about the cowardly lion was,  inside, where it really counted, he was brave. We can be brave because of who is in us. Philippians 4:13  " I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Pray for courage for our children when they have to face this big ole world that we live in.

Moral Purity -1 Corinthians 6:18-19

September 14 Moral Purity 1 Corinthians 6:18-19
Shun immorality.  Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man  sins against his own body.  Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own.

We need to remember who we are and who we belong to.  We are a child of the living God and the Holy Spirit lives in us.  Let's Pray that our children  will shun evil and live in a way that is pleasing to God

Integrity 2 Corinthians 1:12

September 13 Integrity 2 Corinthians  1:12
"For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience that we have behaved in the world and still more toward you with holiness and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God,

Proverbs 11:3 The integrity of the upright will guide them.

Definition in the dictionary Integrity : honesty, sincerity, uprightness, undivided, unbroken condition, completeness,  wholeness and entirety

Integrity is who you are when nobody  is looking

Let's pray that our young people show integrity in all that they do.

"Let your  light so shine before men,  that they may  see your good work and glorify your Father in Heaven".  Matthew 5:16

Discerning truth from error - 1 Kings 3:9

Sept 12 Discerning truth from error 1Kings 3:9
"Give thy servant therefore an understanding mind to govern thy people, so that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to govern this thy great people."

This was the prayer from young Solomon when God told him to ask for anything.  God was so pleased with him that he made him the richest and wisest man of his time.

We all need to learn to discern, not just between good and evil, but also between what is good and what is best.
Pray that we all learn to discern

Fleetwood......like the Cadillac

My name is Fleetwood...like the Cadillac.

That line got me many  years ago when I was 15 and Mark was 16 years old . We have been together ever since. We've been married 36 years and he is a great husband, provider, Daddy, Friend and the love of my life. He was very  good at his job and worked extremely  hard. I gave him plenty of motivation with 4 children in 6 years and plenty of medical bills.....  The  kids also like to eat.

Retired :  Before Mark retired, he did not  seem to know anything about my kitchen and did not seem curious  to find out. After retirement,  things changed.   It  is no longer my kitchen. It is our kitchen.  Turns out, he is better in the kitchen  than I ever was.  Now that he is in charge of the kitchen, it stays cleaner and is more organized. Sort of  wish I had learned that one earlier.  He is a great and creative cook, willing to try new recipes.  Me, I cook the same ole, same ole. I think that I may get  fired, or maybe I already have been fired; not sure, not complaining.

Friday, he took me fishing for  small bream for my Mom.  That is one of her favorite foods.  My policy is, I know that I can not out cook  Mom. So, when she comes to visit,  I try to have food that she can not get... like just caught, fresh, fried fish.

Saturday, he cooked fry fish and potatoes and hush puppies outside. I was on the inside where it was much cooler; cooking baked beans, pasta salads, Lobster dip and deviled eggs for the non fish-fry folks. Mom and my sister Barb had come into town for a family wedding.  The kids and grandkids  came to see Mom.  So we had a pretty large group to feed.  Mark stayed home with the grandkids, while the rest went to the wedding.

Sunday, after church and Sunday School and naps, we headed to Hahira to help someone that needed us to check on an estate.  We stopped by and visited my Uncle James and Aunt Evelyn.  Mark  knows how much I love them and  that  Uncle  James  has been sick. Uncle James looks much better than the last time we visited. It was a great visit except for Mark having  to catch Uncle James  when he  fell.  I sure am glad Mark was there to catch him. They gave us a huge bag of pears from the same tree that I got pears from when I was a little girl.

Monday, I had a Doctor appointment (broke elbow better) and Bible study and then picked up the grandbabies.  When I got home, Mark  had  peeled all of the pears. He had half of them on the stove cooking and the other half in the fridge. He had pork roast with veggies in the oven to feed Clint and Anna for supper. He also cleaned the kitchen and started mowing the yard.  Olivia helped him mow the rest of the yard.

Tuesday,  we did a long early morning walk because it felt like first day of Fall. Then  I went to my Bible study and lunch with the ladies.  When I got back, he had dug and parched some  peanuts and shelled the rest.  He cooked the rest of the pears and they were ready for canning. We put up 13 jars of pear preserves.

I think he deserve a reward for all of his hard work. It is time to get back on the road. So, this week we will be going to Madison for the Flea across Florida show. Then, next week we will be heading to Pennsylvania  for a two week buying trip. We  love using this business as an excuse to travel.

I grew to love my "Cadillac" while we were very young.  But I really love my classic "Cadillac"  much better.

911

I do not feel like saying anything clever or cute today.  Pray pray pray,  for all who were touched by 911.
God bless America.

Wisdom- Proverbs 8:10-11

September 11 Wisdom- Proverbs 8:10-11
"Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.

Read one chapter of Proverbs every day to gain wisdom. There are 31 chapters.  That is enough to read one chapter every day for a month. Wisdom calls  out to man.  Seek wisdom, find wisdom and
treasure wisdom.

Looking for wisdom in  the wrong place was part of the reason for the fall.  Genesis 3:6-" When the woman saw that the tree was good food and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, then,  she took from the tree and ate".......Do yo remember the name of the tree?  Genesis 2:16 and17A  The Lord God commanded the man, saying,"From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the( tree of the knowledge of good and evil) you shall not eat...From the beginning, God did  not want us to sin because, He alone knows what is best for us and he did not what us to  touch or be touched by evil.

Now go to the book of James
James 1:5-" If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally and without reproach."
James 1:18- "Of  His own, He begat us with the words of truth so that we should be a kind of first fruit of His creation."
James 1:21- "Therefore , get rid of all evil and receive with meekness and humility the  engrafted word of God which is able to make you wise and  save your soul"
James 3:13-" Who is wise and understanding among you ? Let it  show by his good life and  conversation in gentleness of wisdom".
James 3:17- "But wisdom, that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, congenial, full of mercy and good fruit, without partiality and hypocrisy."

There are so many verses about Wisdom that I could go on all night.  But you can see, that God wants us to have wisdom..

Pray for our children, grandchildren and ourselves  to seek and find wisdom.

Increasing Spiritual Maturity- Hebrews 6:1

September 10 - Increasing Spiritual Maturity  Hebrew 6:1
"Let us leave behind elementary teachings and doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity.  Let us not again be laying the foundation of repentance from dead works and faith in God."

Let's look at these  verses  in the Living Bible, it kind of tell is like it is.

"Let  us stop going over the same old ground again and again always teaching those 1st lessons about Christ.  Let us go on instead to other things and become mature in our understanding, as strong Christians ought to be. Surely we don't need to speak further about the foolishness of trying to be saved by being good, or about the necessity of faith in God"

When our kids are young we feed them milk, but as they grow we feed them meat........or in my kids case veggies.  It is very cute for babies to droll and crawl  and eat baby food and cry when they do not get their on way.  But it is not cute for a grown up to still  be spoon fed.  There comes a time when we have to grow up and head toward maturity.

We need to pray for our kids to grow in faith  and become mature Christians.

A Teachable Spirit - Proverbs 1:5,8

September 9- A teachable spirit  Proverbs 1:5.8
"A wise man will hear and increase learning and a man of understanding acquire skill and leadership from wise counsel.   Hear your Father's instructions and do not reject your Mother's teaching."

I often say go to Proverbs for wisdom and here is another  great example.
A man of understands will receive leadership skills from wise counsel . The best counsel you will  ever get is through the Holy Spirit and God's Word. Proverbs says to  hear and obey your Daddy's instructions and not to reject  your mama's teaching.  There comes a time in most young people lives when they  think they know everything and have  all of the answers.  These verses are a warning to  not reject what you learn at home, when you leave home.  We are never too old to learn from wise counsel.

Pray that your children will listen to wise counsel and keep a teachable spirit all the days of their lives.

Respect for Authority Romans 13:2

Sept 8 Respect for Authority Romans 13:2
"Therefore,  he who resist the authorities, resist what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur Judgement."

Be careful what you do. Little ones are watching
They learn more from what they see us do than what we say.

Do we obey the speed limits?
Do we cheat on our taxes?
Do we criticize their teachers
Do they hear us crucify our preacher after church?

Respect : The office
Respect : The uniform
Respect : Church leaders
Respect : Parents
Respect : Teachers

I am sure there is more, but you get the idea.  When Jesus was asked if he should obey the law (pay taxes), He asked for a coin and said to render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's  and to God the things that are  God's. I think that means to obey the law of the land unless it goes against the law of God.  Authority figures  come and go, but God is always in control.

Adults, we need to be a good examples for the young ones who are looking.  Maybe , we need to clean up our act first and then pray for all of us to show respect for Authority.

7 days of praying for kids

Today is day 7 of praying the word for our kids. I have these words written in bold print  with a magic marker  beside my bed so that I can go to sleep praying for the kids and wake up praying for them.
1 PROTECTION
2 SALVATION
3 PURPOSE
4 FAITH
5 SUBMISSION
6 POWER OVER  SIN
7 TO PLEASE GOD
This week I found a book by Stormie Omartian at the christian book store inside the  Market on the Square.  It is called "The Power of Praying for your Adult Children" and I could not resist buying it. She has a real insight into the Mother's heart. Our job is not over when they are grown and gone.   We now have the privilege to serve the Lord  by covering our Adult children in prayer. This is  true no matter the age. She said that  knew parents in their eighties and nineties who are still praying for their adult children in their sixties and seventies.  I know that  Mom still prayers for all of us and I am 55.   I have only read three chapters but, I recommend it for it's great power prayers, scriptures and advice for Moms.

To please God Colossians 1:10

September 7- To please God Colossians 1:10
"To lead a life worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.

To Please God
1) lead a life worthy of the Lord
2) Fully pleasing Him
3) Bearing fruit in every good work
4) Increasing in the knowledge of God

Sounds like a great 4 step program for success and a worthy goal

When life is over here and I reach the pearly gates, My fondest dream is to hear Him say, "Well done thy good and faithful servant."

Pray that our children and grand children  live a life that is pleasing to God.

name those kids

Anna asked me for a picture of Mark's Mom.  So, I spent the day going through old pictures  and albums.  I learn one thing.  Always mark the name of everyone in a picture.  I taught preschool for years and just  knew that I would remember every name. I have pictures of babies that I can not remember ; nieces or  friend"s kids?

Power over Sin Romans 6:1,2,14

Sept 6 Power over Sin  Romans 6:1,2,14
"What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? By no means, How can we who died to sin still live in it? For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace."

We told our children and now tell our grandbabies, that they can not do any thing to make us stop loving them.  But they can make us lose trust and not allow us to do things for them  or with  them or take them to special  places.

We want for the kids to behave  even when we are not with them.  We want for them to learn to make good decisions and to do what they know they should  do out of love and not fear.

God is a much better parent than we can ever hope to be.  He wants for us to live under grace and not rules. There  are 10 commandments and man made 1000's of laws from them.  Jesus summed up the entire law with these verses in Matthew.  Thou shall Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your  mind... your neighbor as yourself.

By the way ,God wants us to stay away from sin  because He loves us and wants to shield us from the consequences of sin.  He knows they rest of the story and wants what is best for us.

Pray that the younger ones will fall so in Love with the Lord that they will obey Him out of their love for  our Heavenly Father.  Not a bad idea for us older folks either.

Submission to God Romans 12:1

Sept 5 Submission to God Romans12:1
"I beseech you therefore brethen, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service.

Simply stated, this means Yes, Lord

We belong to God. He created  us and we were bought with a price.  There is a story about a little boy that made a special toy and it was taken away from him.  When he finally found it, it was in a store window at a very high price.  So, the little boy worked very hard and earned the money. He went into the store and bought his toy back.  He owned this toy twice, the first time when he made it and again when he bought it for a price

Lord,  please  help all of us to learn to submit to you and learn to say Yes, Lord.  After all you created us and know what is best.    Thank you

To grow in faith Roman 4:20-21

Sept 4-To grow in faith - Romans 4:20-21
"No distrust or  unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised."

These verses are talking about Abraham, the father of our faith, who believed the impossible. He and his wife were going to have a child in their old age....really old. You will find more about his faith in James and Genesis.

To find  the description of faith and the faith " hall of fame", go to Hebrews  Chapter 11, the faith chapter.   "Faith is the substance of things hoped for , the evidence of things not seen."  I think that the most important verse on faith may be, Hebrews 11:6..." but without faith it is impossible to please God"..... That is enough for me to want to have faith. Romans 10:17 says "So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God."

Let's pray for our  kids to grow in faith through hearing the Word.

The American Bible challenge

I have never recommended a show on T.V. before,  but this is a must see.  Jeff  Foxworthy  is the host of this new game show on GSN  the game show channel  #116 on my satellite dish.   You may have to find it on yours.  It has been coming on at  different times to find the right time slot.  I think it will be on Thursday nights at 8:00.  The show is fun and interesting and challenging. Of course Jeff is funny.  He is also  respectful  of the contestants and the Bible. Their is a choir that sings uplifting music as you go into and out of commercials . When you get a question wrong, it makes you want to look  it up in the Bible.  It is a  positive  show for the whole family to watch.  The contestants are not playing for money for themselves, but for their favorite charity. Please check out this show and let entertainment  executives  know  that there is a market for positive shows.

A sense of purpose Jeremiah 29:11

Sept 3- A sense of purpose ..Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for good and not evil, to give you a future and hope."

Ask a child what he wants to be when he grows up and stand back and be charmed by all of their big dreams.
As we get older, the question becomes, What is our purpose? The answer is a challenge at every age and changes with every stage of life.

I always knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, (A wife and mother).  God blessed with  my dream. I have moved into another stage and new season of life. My kids are grown and gone and on their own.  Mark retired. My life went from so busy that I was dealing with survival daily, to what are we going to do now.  What is our purpose?   We love our little business and the travel that it allows us to do. I need to do  more.  For me,  right  now, today ,  I need  to be study, study, study, and pray, pray, pray,  and learn to obey.

Pray for the next generation to find God's purpose for their life.

posting verses the night before

I am posting the verses the night before and re-posting on the correct day. That is so that I can wake up thinking about the verse before I get out of bed in the morning.  This morning the verse is ..".And that from a child, you have know the holy scripture which is able to make you wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."

Last night Becca and Riley spent the night with us.  We were eating Pizza and watching The great American  Bible challenge.  The question was . "What was Moses'; basket made out of ?"  Becca answered  reeds and I answered  papyrus.  Turns our we were both right and bulrush would have been correct.  The point is.  I love that she reads the word enough to be able answer questions about the Bible.  I use to watch Jeopardy with our kids and they could answer the  Bible  questions better than most adults on the show.

Another verse that I love is also in Timothy. " Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not be ashamed , rightly dividing the word of truth."  Timothy 2:15.  Our children  need to see us reading and studying the Word.

Genuine Conversion 2 Timothy 3:15

Sept 2 Genuine Conversion
2 Timothy 3:15 - " And that from a child, thou have known the holy scripture which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."

We are to pray for our children and grandchildren and introduce them to scripture..  This can be done through ..daily devotions, bible stories, children's church, sermons, bible drills, Sunday school, songs, VBS, video's and in my day old records.  There are teachable moments and object lessons and let them see you study your Bible.

I love the verse Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

When I get to heaven,  I would love to see every child that touched my life join me there in their own time.

Pray for your children and grandchildren today
