Kentucky history lesson

Kentucky, the land of blue grass, rolling hills;  farm country, horse country and like every state,  a rich  history that makes our country great.

One of our greatest treasures are our seniors.  We need to honor them and listen to them for their wisdom  and   knowledge of our  history.

We met a 92 year old lady.  She was delightful and my role model.  My goal is to still be selling stuff when I am 90 and talking to all the people that I meet along the way.  We bought stuff from her with stories of who they came from and where she got them.

She told us a story about the school right down the road called Sinking Springs.
Her grand mother and Aunt went to the school there. One year they had a knew male teacher who was a very good teacher and had no discipline problems in his class.  When ever a  certain man would ride up, he would dismiss class and all of the kids got to go home early.

When he left, they found a letter stuck in the beams of the old building.  That was when they realized that their teacher,  Hiram Hudson  had changed his name.

His real name was Frank and his brother's name was Jessie and they had a very different profession .  They kind of rode around with a gang and their last names was James........

Remember

We always  shake hands and thank veterans when we travel.  This week,  I did this with a man that I met in Dexter Missouri.  He told me that he was proud that the young veterans today are getting respect.  When he came back from Vietnam, he was spat on. It made me sad and physical sick to think of what our young men went through for serving  their country.  I told him that our young men and women deserve respect  today , but so did the soldiers of his generation.  I thanked him again for what he did.........Remember.

We have  gone through 6- 8 states this trip  and I have been delighted to see how many small  towns are putting their flags out to honor our troops and fallen troops. It makes me proud to be an American....Remember.

what time is it

When we were in Tennessee, we were on central time, one hour behind.  So the clock on the car was fast.  Then we changed cars and went in to Kentucky and somewhere the time change back .  So, this time the car clock was slow.  Tomorrow we will go back into central time again and I am not sure what time it will be.

on the road again

This morning we walked across a very busy,  high bridge to where our suburban was towed  yesterday.  I do not like heavy traffic and Mark does not like heights.  So, I was walking as close to the rail over looking the river and Mark was walking as for away from the rail as he could, even on the road when cars passed by.  We made it across.

Our "new" vehicle needs a new transmission. The next move was to rent a car.  The local car rental was a great hot pink and neon green building.  It also had  a hydro  massage parlor, tanning beds, an exercise room and sold pretty stuff. The lady in charge said that she has seen us crossing over the bridge and decided to give us a good deal on our  Honda accord.  It is a perfect car for taking the curves of these Kentucky roads.

We got out of town around 11:00 and headed  to Russell Springs.  Talk to Shirley and had to make different arrangements for the August  show.  So glad that we came this way so that we could make it happen.  We  then went shopping and found a lot of good deals.  Then  we  ate at a great Japanese place.  We found a small hotel with a indoor pool and hot tub to relax in after a long  day of work,  aka shopping.

Selling names

When we were at the Sherman march yard sell ,  we were set up beside a very interesting neighbor who did not believe in shaking hands.. She knew someone who die by shaking hands, did not trust anyone and told storys about  identity theft that happen to her at different stores.  The locals told us not to judge their town by her and that she was harmless. We   enjoy meeting different sort of people,  so we were fine with our neighbor and traded  stuff with her during the day.  One of the things that Mark got from her was a sign that said Lincoln Parking only.  I was not sure where we would be able to sell that sign, but it was ours.

The next week at the peacock festival, we bought 97 plates from a grand daughter that did not want all of those expensive plates that her Granny had bought  in the 80's.  We were not sure if we could sell them. But she needed money to go to Vet school (so that she could take care of cats) so we bought them.

This week in Tennessee, the plates sold better than we expected.  A lady came  by and I showed her that I had them stacked according to content,  such as,  art, animals, babies, dancers.  I showed  her a  foreign plate that was very different from the rest.   When I opened the box,  we saw the word Aida at the top and she exclaimed," that is my name".  So, of course she had to have that plate.  I opened up the one box that was special to her.

Later, a young couple came by and asked how much for the road sign.  When I  told them,  they could not get their money  out fast enough.  As, they walked away with their sign, she turned around and told me that their last name was Lincoln.

I think   that God has a sense of humor and loves  use our little business to bless others and show me that he is near.

Broke down in Burkesville Kentucky

We had a great show in Lafayette Tennessee .  We sold a lot of stuff and met a lot of nice  people.  We sold so much stuff that we really need to go shopping before our next  show. We also need  to meet with Shirley in Russel Springs Kentucky  about the 127 yard sale in August.
We heard a noise about 45 miles from Russell Springs and got out and saw smoke and knew that  our Journey was done for the day.  We called AAA and they sent a tow truck. The driver  convinced us that our best bet was to drive back 5 miles  to Burkesville  for the  best  hotel and Chevy dealership and rental car place.  We left our trailer in a stranger's yard  and watched another stranger drive off  with our suburban on his tow truck. So, here we are...sort of stuck. We are beginning to think that  maybe he did not want to drive any further on a Sunday  afternoon.
We stay  in a lot of  hotels.  This the best hotel in town because it is the only hotel in town.  When you pay 70 something dollars, you would expect a microwave, fridge, clock, coffee pot, decorations on the wall, nice flower beds or at least breakfast.  Alas, we have a bed and not much  more to brag about.  We are staying in a 39 dollar hotel  and paying much more. The local diner ripped us off at lunch, and we got rained on as we walked back to our hotel.
But, as Mark says,  we have had worst problems.  Mark is taking a nap and then we plan to take another  walk   through  town and by the river.  Next,  we  hope to watch our cooking show on our 6 inch T,V.  if it picks up more than 3 channels.  Sure hope the car repair goes better tomorrow.  Life on the road is never dull, especially for Mark and Connie.

a Mother in nature

We were having our morning walk when we came up on a clutch of baby turkeys.  We slowed down so that we would not scare them.  When we got too close for mama's comfort, she burst out of the woods and strutted around to draw attention to herself and away from her babies.  Then ran away from the area, hoping we would follow her. Mark and I backed away and went the other way.  She had done her job, protecting her babies at her own risk, willing to lay down her life for her own.  It was a privilege to see such an act of bravery and sacrifice, especially during turkey season.  That is what mama's do........  sacrifice  for their kids.  Happy Mothers day to my special  Mom and to all the mom's out there that do what they do everyday.

Judge not

Romans  14:13A ...Therefore, let us stop passing judgement on on another

Matthew 7:1 Judge not lest you be judged

6 reasons no to Judge... Roman 2:1-5 ( from Beth Moore study)
                                                          ( Living beyond yourself)

1- When we judge others, we invite the discipline of our Heavenly father
2-We do most of the same things that we condemn in others
3-We do not know the whole truth
4-We are mere humans
5-When we judge others. we are judging God
6-God's judgement is always righteous. Our is tainted by the flesh

There are many more reasons, but that is a good start

broke down in Dublin

We finally broke down (oops, that comes later) and bought a  Suburban.  This was it's maiden voyage to buy and  sell on the Sherman trail yard sale.  We had a good weekend  and spent time with one of our favorite ladies.

We heard a little noise and had two different tire places look at it and  both said it looked fine.  So, we decided  take it back to the place where we bought it when we got home.  I had just text  Drew to ask him if he would cook fish for supper tonight.

The noise got louder and Mark headed to Walmart to see if we could get the tire fixed.  A car pulled up next to us to tell us that our tire was wobbling.  We pulled over and the lug nut cover fell off exposing all of the lug  nuts broke off except for one that was holding the  tire on by a thread.  We looked up and saw a car.  The  same family that told  us  about the problem,  had turned around to check on us.  She asked us if we needed any help, offered to take us to a hotel and gave us  local information that we needed to get by for the night.  So,  thank you Latoya and  her young sons for proving that there are still good  people in the world.  I hope that she will be blessed.  The kindness of strangers.  Pay it  forward.

Dreamed about Heaven

I dreamed about heaven last night.  It was not what you would expect; like see all of my family that have died. I did not see streets of gold or anything that I have read about or seen in movies or heard in songs.  It was just a dream.

Mom and I were walking around a beautiful place with trees that seem to sway and sing and praise God.  Riley and Jet were  preschooler  and  jumping in a river from very high and having fun with no fear of getting hurt.  I do remember not feeling pain or being sick,  which I was when I went to bed.  Mom started floating down the river just because she could and wanted to and was "young" enough to do it.  Age did not seem to matter.

When I looked around,  I realized that it sort of looked like my favorite  camp ground with all of the beauty of nature that I so enjoy.  Even while I was dreaming,  I remember thinking that this did not seem right....are maybe it was right, because  every one seem content and happy.

I realize that this was just a dream.  Heaven is a mystery.  The bible tells us very little about what it will actually be like in Heaven.  I do not think that we will be floating on a cloud like the cartoons depict. The the most important thing about Heaven is,  that is where Jesus is and where I want to be when I finish my journey where on earth,

Patience

We are doing the 1998 Beth Moore study on the fruit of the Spirit.  She reflects on two Greek words to describe patience.

Hypomone= endurance,  which  is  putting up with things or circumstances and is inspired  by hope

Makrothumin= forbearance or long-suffering  with people and is inspired by the Holy Spirit

When you put these two together you get patience.

So, here I am studying about patience.  I think I may be learning  and then life happens.  I get to a traffic light and it takes longer than I think it should.... 30 seconds.  We take the kids to get Ice cream and the server takes for- ever...7 minutes. That's just tonight.  I think that I have a long way to go.  My problem is I pray for patience,  but  I want it now,

My son's daughter

When Clint was young , He was my  strong-willed child...very stubborn.  As he matured, his stubbornness evolved into patience which reaped him some of  the  best  blessings of his life.  His is now married with two beautiful daughters.

His oldest is Olivia and will be three years old in three weeks.  Yesterday, she was at the house.  We took the grandchildren to pick peaches and then to the play ground.

When we got back to the house, I asked Uncle Drew  to cut her up a peach while Mark and  I were cooking supper.  When he handed her the plate of peaches, we casually told her to say thank you,  She is usually very good about saying please and thank you.  But at this time she had made up her mind that she did not want to do it.  We told her again to say thank you... she stood there looking at all of us, deciding her best plan of action.  She ran toward me and grabbed my leg for me to pick her up and save her from having to do such a terrible thing.  So, I picked her up and whispered in her to her that she knew that she had the power to make people happy by saying please and thank you.  I could tell it was not doing any good, so we placed the peaches in the fridge and placed  her on the couch where sat, look at us and thought. Drew went to take a shower.  Every once in a while , she would ask me," where is Uncle Drew"?. When she saw him, she would just look at him and think.

Every one began to arrive for supper. While we finished  supper,  the guys  sat around the pit and talked. Olivia and  I went outside to call them in for supper.  Olivia asked me one more time," where is Uncle Drew"?.  When she found him, she walked right up to him and said, " thank you for the peaches.  So, Olivia had peaches with her supper.  Later that night she said to me," I say please and thank you".

Love that girl..... My son's daughter.

why read proverbs

I love they Bible because it gives you the answer in the first few verses of proverbs

Proverbs are written:

So  that men may know wisdom and to understand words of insight.
To receive instructions in wisdom, justice, judgement and living right.
To give insight to the simple.
To give knowledge and discretion to youth.
So that the wise will hear and increase learning
So that a man of understanding will acquire leadership skills
To be able to understand a proverb and interpret these nuggets of truth

Reverent fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge
Fools despise wisdom and instruction

My son hear the instruction of thy Father and do not reject your Mother's teaching
For what you learn from them will stand and it will gain you many honors

Wisdom is calling out to you.....Will you answer that call

worship with Psalms

When you want to worship God, when you are all by yourself, read Psalms and pray a few of the verses back to Him. " Dear Lord, I delight in your Word." " Dear Jesus, Help me to bear fruit in season"....."God,  you are my shield, my glory,  the lifter of my head".   Can't you just see Him reach down and lift up our chin to face Him when we humble our self  and bow to  pray.  Love Jesus, love His Word
