Red cross folks
Red cross volunteers are just regular folks doing the best they can to help those in need. We are from every state in the United states. We meet many Vietnam vet, young people, retired folks like us, and , some who are still working and using vacation time to serve. They all have interesting story's as to why they serve. We meet each other at snack "breakfast", where we grab a quick coffee a bagel and head to early meetings or to catch the van. We talk in the van on the way to work and learn a lot about each others. I have met people who have survived other disasters and did not forget what Red cross did for them. People who have been down on their "luck and received a helping hand and want to give back. Some of the volunteers spend more time deployed than at home. We don't know what time or what day it is We just go from site to site, following directions. This is a huge operation. Things do not always go perfect. We get cold, tired, sick frustrated and make mistakes. But our heart is in the right place. We just want to serve as many people as we can before returning home to the real world.
