Spending December with Jesus

I spent most of November in the Psalms, giving thanks. I plan to spend December with Jesus in the word by studying the gospels.
Matthew chapter one starts with the genealogy of Jesus Christ from Abraham to Christ, with five  females listed.  Three  of them could be  called bad girls of the Bible. Ruth was a foreigner.  Mary was a virgin who received a bad reputation in her day because of unbelief by the neighbors.  Kind of gives us girls hope that God can use any one to fulfill His plans.

Matthew 1:18-23 tells   the birth of Jesus. The Angel tells Joseph that Mary's baby is "of the Holy Spirit and that His name is to be Jesus which means Savior, because He will save His people from sin. This fulfilled the prophecy that said that a virgin would conceive and His name would be called Emmanuel.  Em man u el meaning God with man or God with us.

These few verses give us a beautiful picture of the Trinity... God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  Jesus is conceived (of the Holy Spirit) making the Holy Spirit  His Father which is God. He is to be called Jesus which means Savior and Emmanuel which means God with us. A wonderfully complex fact of life and yet a simply truth that we accept by faith.
